The reason Sanders should be the Democratic nominee is this:
The USA, for all that’s irrevocably fucked up about it, is the most dominant country in the world. Barely, sure, but still tops (by most of the innately flawed measures we have). That means that the President of the United States is certainly among, and probably is, the most prominent of Earth’s individual humans. So, whoever is President of the United States is automatically a very, very famous, public figure. Right now, that’s Donald Trump, which has led many Democrats to run away from the chance to select a steadfast progressive as their party’s nominee. The reasons for this running-away vary, and are largely influenced by our assumptions about how society must function based on the blip-in-eternity precedent that is modern political history.
The following is, in my eyes, and dramatically oversimplified because I am not nearly articulate enough to type out an entire treatise on the Sanders cause, why Bernie Sanders is the ideal Democratic nominee for us, the people -- all of us not in the hyper-elite economic class, and those in the highest economic classes who have any empathy left in them.
If Bernie Sanders becomes President of the United States, his will become the name known most throughout the world. The ideals he espouses, and the consistency with which he has espoused them, will become household knowledge. Has he set a perfect example for us to follow? Certainly not. Has he set a damn good one -- one leagues more human-rights-centric, more consistent, progressive, and inclusive than those set by any of the other Democratic candidates, let alone that set by Donald Trump himself? Yes. Undoubtedly, yes. If you’re in doubt, I urge you to read his issue stances and biography.
Will Bernie Sanders’ policy proposals be unprecedentedly successful and singlehandedly salvage Earth’s future? Of course not. But they’ll push us forward, make us realize what’s possible to ask of our elected officials and our governments; show us, humanity, by means of the most public position in existence, what we might hope to achieve should we continue to fight for our rights as fellow human beings.
Bernie Sanders has already set an example for millions who have joined the movement his candidacy brought into the mainstream. And he can do so for billions more, should we take the rare opportunity to elect such a consistently empathetic, progressive candidate as our President.
The only way to salvage our world is to push hard. Established political practices and cautious, moderate policies are no match for the rising tides of right-wing extremism, corporate-fueled wealth inequality, and imminent, global climate catastrophe.
Bernie Sanders can win, and when he does win, we the people will win, too.
Consider this the official 'Isaac Handelman' endorsement. Now bring it on, Super Tuesday!
